Central schemes like PM-KISAN work in every state, but agriculture is largely run by state governments, so what you can actually get — and how you apply — depends on where you farm. Your state’s agriculture department runs its own schemes, its own subsidy portals and its own application windows, and it decides whether to take part in some central schemes (PMFBY crop insurance, for example, is voluntary for states). The fastest way to see your options is to start from your state’s official agriculture portal. The table below lists the official portal for eight major states, plus one verified state scheme where we could confirm it. So far we have a full guide only for Punjab; more state guides will follow.

How State and Central Schemes Fit Together
- Some central schemes are the same everywhere. PM-KISAN pays ₹6,000 a year to eligible land-holding farmer families in every state, and some states add their own money on top — Maharashtra’s Namo Shetkari scheme, for example, adds ₹6,000 for PM-KISAN beneficiaries there, according to the Press Information Bureau.
- Some central schemes are optional for states. States choose whether to take part in PMFBY. Punjab was not on the Government’s list of implementing states, so check your state before planning around crop insurance.
- Some are run state by state. PM-KUSUM is implemented by each state’s nodal agency, and the micro-irrigation subsidy under Per Drop More Crop and machinery subsidies go through state governments.
- Some go through banks everywhere. The Kisan Credit Card is issued by banks under common RBI and NABARD guidelines, so it works the same way across states.
How to Find Your State’s Farmer Schemes
- Open your state’s agriculture portal from the table above and look for its Schemes or Services section.
- Check which schemes are open now, and note the application window, because many state subsidies open only for a few weeks each year.
- Get your land record from your state’s land records portal. Punjab’s is jamabandi.punjab.gov.in and Uttar Pradesh’s is upbhulekh.gov.in. Our documents checklist explains what to keep ready.
- Apply only on the official portal or through your District Agriculture Office.

Eligibility
Each state scheme sets its own conditions — landholding limits, category (small and marginal, women, SC/ST), crops or machinery covered, and whether you must already be registered on a state farmer database. Documents Required
